Yes, some of the stalks I picked have a little pink/green/yellow-ish color (not sure what to call it, but it's on its way to being red!). A few thin, tall ones I picked because their leaves were so big and I wanted sun on the rest of the plant. So, not all stalks will be totally red. I hope that helps!Gen-IL Homesteaderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01218088039979391187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8377767749350647752.post-51135871657052970142010-06-01T09:05:31.235-05:002010-06-01T09:05:31.235-05:00Shelly, I know what you mean about the garden. Sti...Shelly, I know what you mean about the garden. Still have put in potatoes or my last 2 rows of corn. Ugh. There IS so much to do on a homestead. There never seem to be enough hours in the day. (What else would we do with our time, though, right?? :)) We'll eat it eventually--sooner or later!
Rhubarb--there is a white version, but most are red. The stalks will be all red. It will make flower stalks, but i'm not sure about tassles. There is a 'look-alike' rhubarb that is a weed. You don't have that, do you? When it gets real full and there's no sun on the stalks, I pull the biggest stalks and eat them.
Definitely e-mail me. inthered2@yahoo.com. We'll get you covered with good people!!! Good to hear from you! BTW, some friends are saving coffee grounds for me!Gen-IL Homesteaderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01218088039979391187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8377767749350647752.post-43586846229366283822010-05-26T09:49:09.693-05:002010-05-26T09:49:09.693-05:00Things are looking good over there! We finally dried out enough to get the garden in. I didn't think the rain would ever stop. This is the latest I've been in getting the garden going. You are right, we need to slow down to enjoy God's creation's, but there never seems to be enough time, when you're creating a homestead to shelter against the storm ahead.

Rhubarb question: Do the stalks have to be completely red. Also the leaves are huge, would this keep them from ripening? Looks like we have some with tassles growing up. Does this mean anything?

I saw your last comment, how do I get a hold of you. Should I email you through the blog or do you ever go to the chat-room? We need to find a group or BOL just in case. It is a huge weight on me. We are planning on staying put, unless we absolutely can't. It is most important to us to be with Christians.

Now that I've manipulated the comment section I will go. lolAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
