The Elephant in the Room

So, I was planning on writing a different post today, when I noticed an elephant in the room. Yep. Big ol' thing sitting right in the middle of the room. It's name: healthcare. It seems I can't write what I wanted to today, but have to write about what's pressing.

As I'm sure you all know by now, the Obamacare (Obamanation) health care bill has passed the House. Oh sure, there were signs it was going to pass, but I guess I still sometimes live in that fantasy-land where everything happens as it should. Well, what a rude wake-up I had last night while watching the results on the news. Obviously, I was not in favor of this bill. I believe this bill is not so much about healthcare as it is about power. Just how much control can the fedgov yield over the citizens of this great land? How many different ways can they meddle in our pocketbooks and our lives? They've tapped out social security, and they keep promising not to raise income taxes. But they're thirst for money is insatiable so they have to find new ways to get more. They remind me of Smeagol in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. They have a lust for money which shows in every bill they propose.

The income tax is nothing but a Robin Hood style tax, it's highway robbery. Taking from people who have to give to those who don't have does not make anyone richer or better off. It's an insult to both the victim and the recipient of the robbery.

This healthcare bill is the same sort of thing. It is taking from people who have, forcing them to buy what you're selling whether they want it or not, and once again giving to folks who don't have. But, healthcare is a good, not a right. Some folks will say that I have this opinion because I have good health insurance. But, for the first 5 years of our marriage we had no insurance. You know what? That was the luck of the draw. That's the way it was. We made do. We spent our own money when we went to the doctor. Sometimes my folks helped us out. We knew if something major happened that we would have to grovel at the feet of the hospital and the doctors to work something out. That was how it was. It sounds rough, but that is life. It's not always pretty. But, in a free society that's how it works. The haves should be encouraged to help the have-nots out of the goodness of their hearts, not because the government is forcing them to.

Our government is broke. We are in debt to the tune of trillions of dollars. We are supported in our daily operations by money from other countries, namely China. You know, when money's tight at our house, we don't suddenly decide to buy the whole neighborhood a free lunch. You see, it just ain't smart! Somehow the government thinks it is. This healthcare bill is the wrong time and the wrong way to do it.

And answer this: what is the government running that actually runs well? Not the post office, not medicare, not social security, not the trains. We're in for DMV-style medical care. Oh joy!

It just so happens that a friend at work today was making an appointment to have a tooth pulled. You see, it was cracked and she was in a lot of pain. She's on the medical card and it doesn't pay for caps, but it will pay to have a tooth pulled. It also doesn't pay for cleanings (which is probably why this is the 2nd tooth she's had pulled). That's the kind of healthcare we can expect.

Lastly, I'm a Christian and believer in Jesus Christ. But, I have to say that I am so tired of Christians who have no idea what freedom means. I've heard folks today saying that we have to obey the government because the Bible instructs us to. Folks, Christ is the designer and provider of true freedom. Are you really going to tell me that I have to ignore the constitution and be a slave to a tyrannical government? That goes against everything that is in me!!! Standing up for justice and freedom is right. This healthcare bill is none of those things. And the vague 'implantable device' spoken of in Class II, Par. 1, Section B of the bill could sound a bit like 'the mark'. Uh-huh. Not going there, thank you very much.

I was going to post the names of the IL. congresspeople who voted for the bill so that you could be sure to VOTE THEM OUT OF OFFICE in November. But, according to this short article it looks like every democrat except for Dan Lipinski voted for it. So, if you have a democratic congressperson besides Dan, I'd encourage you to vote against them in November. (If Dan is your rep, thank him.) In fact, send them their pink slip now so they can start looking for a new job. They didn't listen to us before the vote, but they sure will listen in November!! Oh, the article also says that they anticipate the health care bill will add to the IL deficity by $400 to 500 million a year! Nice.

Well, I could keep going, but this is quite long. I've got it off my chest. The elephant has disappeared. Time to get back to daily life. Hey, it's time to keep prepping!

Prep On!

I'm glad you spoke up against the treason that just was commited by CONgress. But don't let it lay. Go to Mayberrykeepitsimple,he tells how to kill the beast. My feelings are very much as yours but I'm taking Mayberry's advice on how to kill the beast. Keep up the great postings and maybe sometime the weather will turn nice here.

The sad thing here is that many people are happy. I think the fight in me is gone. We all know deep down what the inevitable outcome will be, so now is the time to start or to keep prepping for our families, friends and our sanity. No matter what we say, they will not care and do whatever they want. I think he will get a 2nd term and most of these people will get reelected. Sorry for being such a pessimist, just what I'm feeling for the moment.

Thanks, Mechanic. I will definitely go look at Mayberr's site. Warm weather would be great, wouldn't it? Waiting.....

Shelly, don't apologize. With the rash of daily assaults on our liberty it way too easy to feel defeated. Boy, I hope to God he doesn't get reelected, or any of the congresscritters, but I'm sure most of them will. Yes, some folks don't seem to be upset about this healthcare bill. It's like they never read anything about it, and only listened to the 'free healthcare' line. Thanks for stopping in!
