Feminine Needs

(One of our apple trees about ready to bloom out!)
Hi everyone! Gentlemen, be warned that this is a post about 'woman things'! You might want to direct the women in your lives here today!

Ladies, in our preps we need to remember that no matter what emergency happens to or around us, all of our feminine 'situations' will still need to be attended to. Our period is not going to take a break when the world is crumbling around us, the electricity is out, or the grocery stores run out of supplies. We need to make sure that we are prepared for whatever monthly needs we may have.

First off, if you're still menstruating, you'll need to keep a good supply of pads or tampons available. How many females are in your home, and how many boxes of supplies do you go through monthly? Multiply that number by the number of months you'd like to have supplies for. I'd say start with a minimum of at least 3 months. I'd prefer to have more than that, though. Think about what your alternatives are if those items become unavailable!

Speaking of alternatives, I'd like to recommend that you look into a few. For a few months now I've been using the Diva Cup. It's a reusable cup that will save you from buying lots of packages and throwing out alot of waste. I highly recommend it. There is a learning curve to it, as most anyone who's used it will tell you. But, the benefits are worth the learning! Even though I use the Diva Cup, I keep a few boxes of sanitary items on hand for company or for helping those in need in an emergency situation.

Another alternative is to make your own pads. I'll admit that I know NOTHING about this. I have not looked in to it, but I have seen that some folks do it. I'm sure that doing a google search will land you right where you need to be!

Don't forget about the other things you'll need such as pms medications, pain relievers, or herbal remedies. I'm personally making sure that I have a good stock of progesterone cream in the house. For my sanity on a day-to-day basis, it's an absolute NEED. (I can't imagine how much more I'd need it in any type of emergency situation! Yikes!) Are you on any kind of birth control? Might want to stock up on that! How about keeping a box of medication to combat yeast infections? (Watch the dates if you're storing that type of medication.) Those of you ladies who are through menstruating should consider stocking up on the items that you might use daily such as hormone creams, vitamins, and medications.

Prep On!

Email me when you get a moment. I am curious on cost and such.

I found something called INSTEAD at my drug store. It's a $5 box of 14 "Diva Cup" equivalents, but disposable. One lasts one period. So that's really affordable and a big supply.

Great post! This site is very useful and educational. http://menstrualcups.org/
Several brands of cups are available on Ebay, often cheaper than retail.

Upinka, Are you serious? Hmmm. I ordered my through Amazon. I'll email you!
Mama4x, The Diva Cup can be found for around $26 (?) and lasts a few years (2-10!), so it sound like the product you found is about the same (14 months for $5)! Good deal! They're SOOO much nicer than 'traditional' products!
Anonymous, thanks for the tip. Thankfully, there are lots of choices out there for us now!
