An Interesting Read

Hi everyone!! In the latest Backwoods Home magazine I received, there was an article describing another article that was written in 1936. The article being discussed was "Isaiah's Job", written by Albert Jay Nock. The Backwoods Home piece was so interesting, I had to print off Nock's actual article and read it. You can find a copy here.

The article, Isaiah's Job, is based on the biblical figure, Isaiah, and the job that he was given. Now, before you run, let me tell you that this is not necessarily a religious article. Isaiah is the base, but the article makes his situation applicable to any situation. You see, God gave Isaiah the job of talking to the people of his day and warning them of the wrath that was to come. But, God told him beforehand that the people would NOT listen to him! Well, why was he supposed to be warning them? (And here is where the article is applicable to us specifically....) Because Isaiah was to go and encourage The Remnant! That's right, there are the masses--the great majority of people--and there are the remnant--those few folks who don't follow the masses, who see the lies they believe, who see through the folks who are telling the lies! As I read this article, I kept thinking about US--preppers, liberty-lovers, homeschoolers, homesteaders, (and, of course, Christians). All of us folks who see the lies that are being told to the masses and who are choosing to turn the lies off and get on with living the lives we know we should be living.

With most modern media, places of learning, entertainment, places of religious worship, the messengers' "last and only thought is of mass-acceptance and mass-approval. His great care is to put his doctrine in such shape as will capture the masses' attention and interest", writes Nock. "The main trouble with all this is its reaction upon the mission itself. It necessitates an opportunist sophistication of one's doctrine, which profoundly alters its character and reduces it to a mere placebo. If say, you are a preacher, you wish to attract as large a congregation as you can, which means an appeal to the masses; and this, in turn, means adapting the terms of your message to the order of intellect and character that the masses exhibit. If you are an educator, say with a college on your hands, you wish to get as many students as possible, and you whittle down your requirements accordingly." And so the article goes, describing how 'prophets' to the masses must 'adulterate' their message to their audience. "Meanwhile, the Remnant, aware of this adulteration and of the desires that prompt it, turn their backs on the prophet and will have nothing to do with him or his message." The Remnant, that's us in the prepper movement, can see the sham that is presented to the masses, and we end up seeking out our own 'prophets'. Those that are speaking the truth, and whose truth is relevant to our lives. I think that's how we all found the American Prepper's Network--we were searching for something that wasn't being talked about anywhere else, and we found a place where other people like ourselves were speaking the truth. (Thank God that Tom founded this network!)

If this tweaked your interest, like it did mine, you might want to read Nock's article. I printed it off--only 11 pages--and found it quite an interesting, affirming read.

I could not get this to pull up. :(
I am gonna check out this magazine though. It looks like a good read. Things do appear to be getting interesting and I hope we are successful in reaching and waking up the masses that are in a slumber, but I cannot say that I've been too successful. I cannot say I've lost friends, but somehow we have become more distanced. I think it's mostly me though, I cannot go through my life anymore pretending and drinking my colas and sit and watch the good timing drunks. I've never been a drinker, but our friends are. It does get lonely in this world. ( I have no idea where this came from, guess the post made me think of the masses and those around me. lol) Hope you are doing good and gardening is productive too.

Hi Shelly! I'm so sorry about the post not working! It's so strange! I googled "isaiah's job" and the first link to come up is prisonplanet and a copy of the article. That's what I copied! Hmmmm. Backwoods Home is good, as is Countryside Magazine! Yes, it's a strane thing when you get tired of 'everything else' and have to have more substance to your life. Most folks just don't understand it! Garden is good--great, even!! I'm very pleased this year! Putting up alot! How about you?
