Hi everyone! Previously, I used those little taco seasoning packets that you can buy, but then I learned that they can have some ingredients that are less than desirable, such as msg. Plus, the price of those little things can add up! So, I set out to find a way to make my own taco seasoning.
We tried this new recipe and we just love it! It was a bit spicier than normal for us at first, but we got used to it. I'm sure that those of you who like hot stuff will think it's pretty mild! It's great because it makes a big amount (and you can double or triple it) so you have a lot more seasoning on your shelf at any given time. I got this out of a book, but I have absolutely no idea what book it was! It looks like one of the headings is "Natural Convenience Foods", but I'm not sure if that was the book title or a chapter title. Sorry!
Taco Seasoning Mix
1/2 cup instant minced onion
5 tablespoons chili powder
3 tablespoons dried oregano
3 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons dried basil
2 tablespoons crushed red pepper flakes
2 tablespoons garlic powder
Combine ingredients and store in an airtight container. Use 1.5 tablespoons of mix with 1/2 cup of water for every pound of meat. Simmer and stir until liquid evaporates. Enjoy!
Prep on!
