Hi everyone!! Boy, I sure hope that you've NEVER said that you're going to feed your family by hunting post-shtf. You haven't, have you? I'll bet that you've probably heard somebody say it, though, haven't you? What a bad idea that is.
First off, hunting is a skill. That's right. It's a skill because it takes time to get to know what you're doing, to know your prey, to know how to process it. It's a skill, but it's also a game of luck. Hubby bow hunts every weekend during bow deer-hunting season, which is a couple months long. Last year, he got 1 deer. So far this year, none. (Season's not over yet, though!) He hunts in a good location where they see lots of evidence of deer. But, that doesn't mean the deer are always there when he is! So, you can't count on hunting always providing food when you need it.
Secondly, how much game do you think will be available when tshtf and everybody and their brother is hunting because they're starving?? I'm guessing there won't be alot of game left!
So I have 2 suggestions for you. First, if you plan on hunting after tshtf, then you should start now so you learn what you're doing. This will give you a leg up on others who try to join you post-shtf and don't have skills. Secondly, continue to store foods, including meats, in case game is not available when you need it.
Prep On!

I hear ya.
The Mister was out in the woods at 6am this morning (first day of gun week) and came back empty handed. Hunting is such a time-intensive sport. At this point, I think the only thing that's keeping him going each morning is my daughter begging for deer jerky LOL.
Hehe! That deer jerky is good stuff, isn't it? My son, in Japan, said he was hoping for more for Christmas this year, and so are the folks he shared it with last year!! Unfortunately, there is no gun season in our county here in IL, so hubby has to bow hunt. He's seen a few deer, but never close enough. He's out there every weekend, morning and evening. Hopefully he'll get something before the seasons over!! Thanks for stopping in, Andrea!
